21st Canada-EU Summit
Montréal, Québec · 29–30 October 2026. Hosted by Prime Minister Mark Carney with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The leaders launched the Canada-EU Alliance for the Future and began work on an ever-closer association of Canada with the EU, short of full membership.
Bilateral irritants discussed (per the PMO backgrounder). Canada raised the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, the EU Deforestation Regulation and proposed EU pesticide measures. The EU raised Canada's steel tariff-rate quotas, the luxury tax on certain EVs and the Buy Canadian policy.
